about us

Welcome to Forestfelters

Forestfelters are Hugh Perkins and Kathy Juncker. All of our products are hand felted from natural fibers. Inspiration comes from the Ancient Cedar that surrounds our home and studio in Dome Creek, British Columbia. Visit our web site www.ancientcedar.ca to learn more.

Here we are, having fun felting in Maureen and Dave Faulkner’s screened garden room during Two Rivers Gallery annual garden tour. Thanks for the picture, Maureen.

All our products are made from natural fibers. The principal fiber for felting is wool. (Wool is sheep fiber.) Microscopic scales on the kinky wool fiber open when they are moistened with warm, soapy water. These scales interlock with other fibers forming the dense fabric we call felt. Other natural fibers can be added to the felt and will be bound with the wool fibers. These fibers include fleece from animals like angora goats and rabbits, llama, alpaca, camel, silk worm fiber and plant fiber like cotton, linen and bamboo. Fine, soft merino sheep wool is the finest wool for felting and merino is the principal fiber in most of our products.

Here are some photos showing felting and dyeing in process.
